Ageing & fine lines
Skin changes with age in several separate ways at once, and treating them as one problem is why a lot of people spend a lot of money without much to show for it.
What's actually going on
Collagen production slows from your mid-twenties, which affects firmness. Cell turnover slows too, so dead skin sits on the surface longer and the skin looks duller and rougher. Oil production drops, so the same skin that was oily at twenty is tight at forty. And cumulative UV exposure adds pigmentation and texture on top of all of it.
Those are four different mechanisms, and a single treatment does not address all four. Resurfacing helps texture and turnover. Hydration helps the tightness and the way light reflects off the skin. Neither builds collagen quickly, and nothing topical rebuilds structural volume.
There is a limit to what any spa treatment can do, and we will tell you where that limit is rather than sell you around it. What we can genuinely improve is texture, tone, hydration, radiance and the general condition of the skin — which is most of what people actually notice.
How we'd approach it
- Dermaplaning, which removes dead surface skin and fine hair and makes an immediate difference to how light hits the skin.
- A course of chemical peels or microdermabrasion for texture and turnover.
- Deeply hydrating facials, which matter more as oil production drops.
- LED light therapy as a supporting treatment.
- Realistic advice about what is and is not achievable without clinical intervention.
How long it takes
Texture and radiance improve within one to two treatments. Anything structural takes months, and some of it is not achievable in a spa setting at all — we will say so.
Treatments we'd use
The complimentary consultation is the right place to start. We will look at your skin properly and tell you honestly what will help — including if the answer is that you should see your doctor rather than us.
