Massage & Body Therapies in Porirua

Massage at Rise is not a bolt-on to a beauty menu. We treat it as bodywork — whether you are here to switch off for an hour or because your shoulders have not moved properly in months. Sessions run from a focused thirty minutes on the back, neck and shoulders through to a full two-hour reset.

IS THIS FOR ME?

Care, shaped around you.

Desk workers carrying tension through the neck and upper back, people training hard and recovering badly, expectant mothers past the first trimester, and anyone who simply needs an hour where nothing is asked of them. If you are in pain rather than just tight, say so when you book so we can allow the right amount of time.

YOUR VISIT

Your visit, step by step.

  1. Before your first visit

You will fill in a short health history covering injuries, medications and anything currently sore. It takes two minutes and it changes how we work on you. Avoid a heavy meal in the hour beforehand.

  2. During the treatment

You undress to your comfort level and stay covered by towels throughout, with only the area being worked on exposed. Pressure is checked early and adjusted whenever you ask. Deep tissue work should feel like a firm, productive ache — never sharp pain.

  3. Afterwards

Get up slowly. Deep tissue and sports work can leave you tender for a day or so, much like the day after a good workout. Drink more water than usual and keep the rest of the day gentle if you can.

AFTERCARE

A little care, afterwards.

  • Drink plenty of water for the rest of the day.
  • Move gently — a walk is better than sitting still, and better than a heavy session at the gym.
  • A warm bath with Epsom salts helps if you are tender after deep tissue work.
  • Some soreness for 24 to 48 hours is normal after deep tissue or sports massage. Sharp or worsening pain is not — call us.
  • Avoid alcohol on the day of a deep tissue treatment.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Who this isn’t suitable for

Tell us about any of the following when you book and we will adjust the treatment or recommend something better suited. If you are unsure, ask — that is what the complimentary consultation is for.

  • Fever, active infection, or any contagious illness — please rebook rather than come in.
  • First trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy massage is available from twelve weeks onward.
  • Deep vein thrombosis, or a current blood-clotting disorder or blood-thinning medication, without your doctor's clearance.
  • Recent surgery, fractures or acute injury in the area to be worked on.
  • Open wounds, skin infections, or severe unexplained bruising.
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or a recent cardiac event, without medical clearance.
  • Hot stone treatments are not suitable for those with diabetes-related neuropathy or reduced skin sensation.

QUESTIONS

A few things you might ask.

Something else on your mind? Contact the team.

What is the difference between deep tissue and relaxation massage?

Relaxation massage works broadly and rhythmically to calm the nervous system. Deep tissue works slowly and specifically into tight bands of muscle to change how they hold. If your goal is to switch off, choose relaxation. If your goal is to fix a stiff shoulder, choose deep tissue.

Is pregnancy massage safe?

From twelve weeks onward, yes, and it is genuinely helpful for the lower back and hips. You are positioned side-lying with proper support rather than face down. We avoid specific pressure points and we will not treat during the first trimester. If your pregnancy has any complications, bring your midwife's or doctor's clearance.

How much should I undress?

Only as far as you are comfortable. You are covered by towels the entire time and only the area being worked on is uncovered. Plenty of people keep their underwear on and it makes very little difference to the treatment.

How often should I come?

For a specific problem, weekly or fortnightly until it settles, then monthly. For general stress and maintenance, every four to six weeks is a realistic rhythm that people actually stick to.
