Waxing in Porirua

Waxing is routine for us and often not for you, so we treat it accordingly: private room, clear explanation of what happens, and no commentary. We wax faces, arms, legs, underarms, bikini and Brazilian, and we do a good deal of men's chest and back work.

IS THIS FOR ME?

Care, shaped around you.

Anyone who wants a longer-lasting result than shaving gives, and anyone whose skin reacts badly to a razor. If you are prone to ingrown hairs, tell us at the first appointment — that is a solvable problem and it mostly comes down to what you do between visits.

YOUR VISIT

Your visit, step by step.

  1. Before your appointment

Hair needs to be about five millimetres long — roughly two weeks of growth. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip. Do not exfoliate or use active skincare on the area for 48 hours beforehand, and skip the moisturiser on the day.

  2. During the treatment

You are in a private room and covered other than the area being worked on. We work in small sections and tell you before each strip. It stings briefly and then it is over — most people find the anticipation worse than the reality, and it genuinely gets easier with regular visits.

  3. Afterwards

Expect redness and small bumps for a few hours, sometimes up to a day on sensitive areas. We apply a soothing product before you leave. Regrowth typically takes three to four weeks, and hair comes back finer over time.

AFTERCARE

A little care, afterwards.

  • No hot showers, spa pools, saunas or swimming for 24 hours.
  • No gym or heavy exercise for 24 hours — friction and sweat on freshly waxed skin cause bumps.
  • Avoid sun exposure, fake tan and chlorinated water for 48 hours.
  • Wear loose clothing after a bikini or Brazilian wax.
  • Start gently exfoliating from day three, then two or three times a week. This is the single best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Do not shave between appointments — it defeats the cycle and makes the next wax harder.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Who this isn’t suitable for

Tell us about any of the following when you book and we will adjust the treatment or recommend something better suited. If you are unsure, ask — that is what the complimentary consultation is for.

  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the past six months — the skin will lift. This one is non-negotiable.
  • Retinol, tretinoin, AHAs or BHAs used on the area in the past five to seven days.
  • Sunburn, broken skin, eczema, psoriasis or active dermatitis in the area.
  • Recent chemical peel, laser or IPL on the area within two weeks.
  • Varicose veins, or very fragile skin, in the area to be waxed.
  • Diabetes or circulatory conditions affecting skin healing — please tell us so we can adjust.
  • We do not wax over moles, warts or skin tags.

QUESTIONS

A few things you might ask.

Something else on your mind? Contact the team.

How long does the hair need to be?

About five millimetres, which is roughly two weeks of growth after shaving. If it is shorter we may not be able to treat you, so it is worth waiting rather than turning up hopeful.

Does it hurt?

Briefly, yes, and less than you are imagining. Sensitivity is highest in the few days before your period, so book mid-cycle if you can. It also genuinely reduces with regular waxing as the hair grows back finer.

How do I stop getting ingrown hairs?

Exfoliate from day three after every wax, two or three times a week, and do not shave between appointments. That fixes it for most people. If it persists, tell us and we will look at whether the hair is being broken rather than removed.

Do you wax men?

Yes — chest, back, shoulders, stomach, plus face and ears. It is a routine part of what we do.
