Perimenopause & menopausal skin

A lot of women arrive at this stage having done nothing differently and finding their skin behaving like someone else's. Dryness, sudden sensitivity, breakouts after twenty clear years, and a general loss of firmness — often all at once.

What's actually going on

Declining oestrogen affects skin directly. Collagen production drops noticeably in the first few years after menopause, oil production falls, skin holds less water, and the barrier becomes more fragile. That combination is why the routine that worked for two decades stops working fairly abruptly.

Hormonal breakouts at this stage are also common and are frequently treated with products designed for teenage acne, which strip an already-compromised barrier and make everything worse.

This is one of the areas where treating skin in isolation gets you the least far. Sleep, stress, nutrition and energy all shift at the same time, and they all show up on your face.

How we'd approach it

  • Hydration and barrier support first, before anything active.
  • Gentle resurfacing to address texture, spaced further apart than we would for younger skin.
  • Massage and body treatments, which matter more than people expect for sleep and stress.
  • Nutrition and wellness coaching alongside your skin treatments, with support through perimenopause and menopause — the piece most skin clinics do not offer at all.

How long it takes

Skin responds within a few weeks. The wider picture — energy, sleep, how you feel — is a longer piece of work and is usually the one worth doing.

Treatments we'd use

The complimentary consultation is the right place to start. We will look at your skin properly and tell you honestly what will help — including if the answer is that you should see your doctor rather than us.
